Gate Remixing - remix your loops in real time with MIDI-triggered gates
Gate Remixing (also known as gate slicing) is an Ableton Live template that turns humble noise gates into a hands-on, performable way to chop and recombine loops - with none of the destructive editing.
Here's the trick: instead of slicing a loop into one fixed edit, all your loops keep playing underneath the surface. Each gate is sidechained to a white-noise trigger, so a simple MIDI clip decides which fragments of which loops come through, and when. Draw in notes, flip pads on and off, reverse or transpose the trigger MIDI, and a brand-new hybrid groove appears - live, in real time, and endlessly variable.
It works just as well on effects. Gate the wet chains of an Audio Effects Rack and trigger them rhythmically for stutters, fills and evolving textures. Perform the whole thing from Push or any MIDI controller, then resample the output to lock in your favourite take.
