BOOM Buss adds scale-aware tuning and hand-picked note selection to Drum Buss's sub-bass boom.
Tune your drums' sub-bass to the key of your song, or use the note picker to play melodic sub lines that fit. BOOM Buss works on both audio and MIDI drum tracks, pairing Drum Buss's familiar processing with a dedicated tuning controller.
What you can do
- Tune your sub boom to the song's key. Set your drum clip's key and scale, choose Scale mode, then turn BOOM Tune to sweep through notes that fit. Change the clip's key to change the notes your subs can play.
- Turn a drum groove into a melodic sub line. Use the note picker to keep the notes you want in your sweep, then play or automate BOOM Tune to create a repeating melody.
- Choose notes by ear. Don't know your song's key? Choose Chroma, listen against your track and use the note picker to keep the notes that fit.
- Shape the sound. Use the familiar Drum Buss macros to adjust the sub-bass weight and length, add grit and shape your drums' attack.
- Make it hands-on. Use Map controls to assign BOOM Tune and Tuning mode to MIDI controls or computer keys.
Three ways to tune
- Scale: snap to notes in your drum clip's key and scale, within B-1 to F1.
- Chroma: sweep through your hand-picked notes within B-1 to F1, without a preset scale restriction.
- Free: choose an exact frequency with continuous tuning across 30–90 Hz.
Note names follow Live's convention. The readout shows the actual note and frequency.
Get started
Load the complete BOOM Buss.adg rack on an audio drum track, or after the drum instrument on a MIDI track. For Scale mode, set the drum clip's root and scale to match your song and enable its Scale switch. Turn BOOM Tune to explore the notes, then shape the sound with the macros.

Requirements
Ableton Live 12 Suite, or Live 12 Standard with Max for Live. Tested in Live 12.4.7 Suite with bundled Max 9.1.5 on macOS. Digital download for use inside Ableton Live.
